The name tibits is derived from the English word "tidbit", meaning “a small, tasty piece of food”. tibits combines the speed of a fast food restaurant and the cozy ambience of a sophisticated café, while serving delightfully fresh and healthy products.
Brothers Reto, Christian and Daniel Frei took part in the ETH Zurich Business Plan Competition Venture 98 with the consulting firm McKinsey, inspired with the idea to create vegetarian fast food restaurants (www.venture.ch). Their business plan convinced the jury and the concept received two awards. Public reaction and media interest were so positive that the Frei brothers decided to go ahead with the project, despite a lack of catering knowledge within the original team. Rolf Hiltl, owner in 4th generation of Haus Hiltl (www.hiltl.ch), according to Guinness World Records the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world, heard of the project via the media and contacted the Frei brothers. From the very beginning, the chemistry between them seemed to work and the recipe was perfect. Basing itself on over 100 years of Hiltl's experience, tibits combines tradition and innovation in an ideal way. In addition to well-established Hiltl favorites such as the unique buffet and freshly squeezed juices, innovative new products were specially created for tibits, too.
